Currently Linky and freebie update!

Currently Linky and freebie update!

It’s only the 2nd of April but I already feel behind on this linky!  Here is my contribution to this month’s Currently Linky.  I probably shouldn’t do this on my first day back after spring break – my mindset isn’t the best, but…sigh…here it is.
You can join here, at Farley’s blog Oh Boy 4th Grade.
Slide1

I also wanted to mention that I’ve updated my latest freebie – the spicy survey.  I couldn’t sleep this morning and while laying there decided that the freebie could be improved upon.  Previously it was really much more friendly to the teacher conducting a whole class survey.  I’ve now added a survey page and graph pages that allow students to survey 10 classmates and graph that – much more student friendly!  You can find it here!  Or click the image below:

Cheers,
Mrs. Castro

Currently Loving A 2012 Holiday Wishlist

Currently Loving A 2012 Holiday Wishlist

I havent done a Currently Loving post in FOREVER! This probably has a lot to do with the fact that the past year hasnt had much to do with shopping for myself (save for some maternity clothes). With Christmas on the way, I decided it was a good time to put together a list of a few things Ive been coveting. Heres hoping Santa reads my blog!

1. Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots: I spotted these in grey a few months back, and fell in love. Ive wanted a pair of Fryes for a while now, and these are perfect. Im ultimately thinking the black will be the most practical. How do I not own any black boots?! Also, theyre a bit pricey but Ive heard that Fryes last forever and are really top notch.

2. Sephora Gift Card: Mama needs some new makeup. For serious. Oh wait, I no longer have time to sufficiently put on makeup. Any chance theres some new, magical stuff that just appears on your face?

3. Kate Spade Earrings: Guaranteed to jazz up a casual outfit, no? Plus, not too expensive!

4. MARC BY MARC JACOBS Preppy Nylon - Natasha Crossbody Bag: Seems like a great option for when I dont want to carry a full diaper bag. I have some great shoulder bags, but with the little guy having something crossbody seems to make a lot of sense.

5. Michele Signature Deco Two-Tone Diamond, Diamond Dial: Admittedly, this one is a stretch (at over 2k!). Really, Id just like a two-tone watch. But, hey, may as well dream big!

What do you want this year?

Currently loving Succulents

Currently loving Succulents

So a few months ago I got two little succulent plants, which I promptly named Mortimer (left) and Rasputin (right) in memory of my favorite queen-bewitching wizards. Ive been trying to get better at keeping plants alive (my two spider plants are a testament to my skills. I accidentally forgot one on a cold windosill in December for an entire month and still managed to coax it back to life.) and I thought it was time I tried my hand at succulents.

I got my succulents at Home Depot where they had a pretty big selection (hurrah, trendy plants.) They werent very expensive, less than 3USD each, which I felt was worth the investment to try my hand at keeping these beauties alive. Ive been folloiwng this guide, helpfully called How Not To Kill Your Succulents which is working out for me. The thing I like about succulents is that you shouldnt water them daily, just whenever the soil is too try. I use my planner to keep track and as long as I check the top of the soil to see how dry it is every few days, its not hard to keep on top of watering them.

While succulents in glass terraneums look gorgeous as hell, succulents do need air circulation to keep them vibrant and happy, so Im liking my current arrangement of Mortimer and Rasputin in this tin pot side by side. They live on my windosill, which gets morning light (not too heavy or too little) and they seem to like that. When they grow bigger (which I hope they will) Im not sure where Ill move them to, but I do think Im going to look for prettier containers.

Do any of you keep plants? Do you prefer decorative ones or more practical herbs or vegetables?

Currently Simulcra obsessed

Currently Simulcra obsessed

Jesus on toast. Jesus in a sink. Jesus on a moth. Ive become obsessed with simulacra again. Or more specifically Pareidolia.

This is collated and mixed by the wonderful, brilliant, superb Everything is Terrible.

Its a classic example of when a joke goes on too long it and it becomes funny. Except again and again for a full 6 minutes.

To continue my indulgence here are some favourites easily obtained ones Ive found (click the thumbnails to biggify):

1) Cheesus

2) Treesus

3) Cheesus II: Death of Cheesus

4) Cookisus

5) Pizzsus? Burntsus. I dunno.

6) And finally, Dogsus (Click the thumbnail to obtain context - kinda NSFW if you realise what your looking at. Oh and also a photoshop - but too good not to post).

Currently Loving

Currently Loving

Where did I leave off? Oh, 2013. Well, no denying its been a while around here.

1. Faux Fur Trim Down & Feather Fill Parka: I could write a whole separate post on this, but Ill give you the TLDR: Im increasingly self-conscious about my age. Not that I think Im getting old. Just the opposite actually. Im acutely aware that people think Im very young. I cant tell you how may times I get asked if Im the nanny. While flattering, I am making an effort to dress a little more mature. Part of this is parting ways with my go-to North Face and Patagonia pieces. While I still love my old favorites, I think this quilted parka reads just a tiny bit more age appropriate.

2. Bolthouse Farms Protein Plus: I cannot get enough of this stuff! While Im sure its not a stellar health food, it totally satisfies my would-be Starbucks iced coffee cravings. Y.U.M.

3. IKEA Ribba Frame: At $14.99 these IKEA frames cant be beat. I bought 4 years ago and still love them so much. Theyre a great oversized square and look so crisp and modern. Im planning on adding 5 more to the collection to make a huge gallery wall in our to-be-renovated dining room. My aim is to create something like this:

4. GLAMGLOW Flashmud Brightening Treatment: OMG PUT THIS ON YOUR CHRISTMAS LIST NOW! Its my new obsession. Obsessed! Its a little spendy at $69, but let me tell you my skin looks amazing. I love, love, love it. If youre not convinced, the awesome people at Sephora just might give you a sample.

5. Facebook Groups: Specifically, Kids Clothing Resale groups. Ive met some great moms, and Ive sold sizes my boys have outgrown and fully funded the next season of clothing. Its fantastic.

6. Mr. Pumice: Man, the bottom of my feet get ROUGH. On days when I remember to scrub down the bottoms of my feet with this thing Im extra happy. Its less than $5 on Steal!?

My honey and I have been on a house hunt lately and grr Its such a long process.  I hope we find something we *love* soon because its truly exhausting!

Spring is seriously knocking on my door and telling me to start Spring cleaning.  My room is such a mess with boots, Uggs, and flats.  Its just time to put it all away and take out my flippies!

Around this time people I know start tanning and going on vacations where they come back burnt with a tan.  So I start to look a bit pastey next to them!  I need a tan!

Kudos to me!  I have been eating healthy lately....FINALLY!  I always gain a few lbs over Christmas time and this year its taking me a tad longer than usual to get rid of it.  But I feel its slowly coming off. Phew!

A sweet friend of mine, Nicole from Teaching with Style is having an awesome giveaway.  She has reached 1000 followers on her blog.  Ahhh I cant wait until I get there. Until then I will be celebrating with her. =)

Drop by her blog by clicking HERE to enter.  I am offering my Lucky Little Leprechauns for St. Patricks Day!

Currently Lovely Award and a Giveaway Shout Out and please help!

Currently Lovely Award and a Giveaway Shout Out and please help!

Wow, today was definitely a Monday!  There was so much to do the day flew by, but I still seemed to feel every minute...does that make sense?  Later a doctors office visit that has me waiting for over 80 minutes past my appointment time, another round of antibiotics for the sinus infection that wont die, only to be given one of the ten pills at the pharmacy...need to go back tomorrow to pick the rest up!  Definitely a Monday!

BUT when I get home and check my email I see I have a lovely comment from Erin Franklin at First with Franklin.  Shes awarded my blog the Lovely Award!  Erin really helped this Monday become not so Mondayish!  I have a second wind and feel motivated to blog if not work.  Thank you Erin for #1 stopping by my new blog!  #2 for thinking my blog was worth mentioning on your blog, Im your newest follower and cant wait to see all your great ideas!
So, part of the Lovely Blog Award commitment is linking back to your "awarder" (if that isnt a word it should be!!!) and recognizing other lovely blogs.  But Im going to do the second part later this week...did I mention I was at the doctors office for nearly 2 hours?  I WILL share the love...but I am going to bask in the love first.   :)

Giveaway Shout Out
Another blog Id like to mention is Leeas blog Set This Circus Down.  Leea is having a linky party for newbie bloggers which also involves a giveaway, a $25 Amazon gift card to be exact.  Its great for newbie bloggers to share in their newness together so head over and join Leeas linky if youre a newbie, otherwise there are all sorts of great links to new blogs to check out, not to mention the potential prize!

HELP US NEW BLOGGERS!
Seriously, tonight is blog recognition night over here! Vicky at Traditions, Laughter and Happily Ever After (one of my very first followers - she must be great!) posted about something that has been on my mind for a while now.  As a new blogger I have ideas - but Im not always sure how to make those ideas look as polished and professional as what I see other more experienced bloggers sharing.

FOR EXAMPLE, my contractions pages - I spent so much time on trying to get borders look right and on details like that that I almost fainted this morning when I printed it (I dont have a printer at home...not a recipe for success!) and the borders were cut off the edges of the page.  Im scared Ill get bad reviews on teachers pay teachers for my borders being cut off...seriously this is making me ill!  (Ill fix it stat, but I know there has to be an easier way to do this!)

So back to the point, Vicky suggested that perhaps a more experineced blogger could give a tutorial on putting units together - what tools do you use, what are some key tips, etc.  Please if you have some tips, I could use them!  And thank you Vicky for suggeting this!

CURRENTLY
And finally, Im linking up to something for the very first time!!!  The Currently Linky that Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade hosts.  I feel so a part of something for participating in something that it seems like all the blogs I follow participate in!
Thats all for today...off to rest (which if Im honest means blog stalking for another hour or two before bed).
Cheers,Mrs. Castro

Currently Loving Gilly Hicks

Currently Loving Gilly Hicks

I feel like I missed out on the whole, Hollister, Gilly Hicks obsession. I was more of a Jacks Wills girl when I was a teenager, and by the time the Abercrombie & Fitch stores started to arrive in my beloved Bluewater, I was more interested in other brands. But recently, I decided to have a little browse in Gilly Hicks as I wanted some new pjs & underwear. I discovered that the Gilly Hicks in Bluewater had a second level which id never noticed before (probably becuase its a bit of a maze in there!) and upstairs I discovered all of their cosmetics and perfumes.

I gave all 3 perfumes a test and fell in love with one called Piper Point, which smells of juicy pear, guava & sandalwood. Its RRP is £38 which isnt too bad for an eau de parfum, BUT I then noticed that all fragrances had 50% off which of course completely sold it to me! I also love the bottle. Its classic, and beautifully simple and it looks perfect on my dressing table.

I also picked up a body splash which come in these huge 250ml glass bottles. Hastings Blush is a peachy scent and so pretty! The body splashes are much more subtle and obviously dont last as long on your skin as the perfumes, but, theyre great for a quick spritz and even work well as room sprays. (not one for your bag though, its rather heavy!) If you manage to get your hands on the Roseberry Opal body splash, I would say grab it! Its the nicest one (in my opinion) and was completely sold out. The body splashes were originally £20 so I got mine for £10!

I also picked up some pretty new underwear, in their 5 for £20 offer. They have a large selection of colours, but I went for navy, mint, lime, pale pink and bright pink lace ones, and even though theyre not top quality, they are really nice for the price.

Ive been told that Gilly Hicks is going to be rebranded in April and is merging with Hollister, (I was obviously too late on the band wagon here!) but im sure that means lots of good sales in the next couple of months, so if you have one local to you, get in there quick!

Love Kate x
